Touching Tiny Lives Foundations

...one child at a time

Rev. Theodore M. Hesburgh, C.S.C., Initiative

Conceived to honor the legacy of Father Theodore M. Hesburgh, President Emeritus of the University of Notre Dame, the Hesburgh Initiative seeks to support the overall mission and strategic plan of TTLF with an emphasis in the arenas of Service and Mother-to-Child transmission prevention programs. Since the inception of the Touching Tiny Lives Foundation, Father has served as the foundation's Honorary Director and is personally committed to this Initiative. Through his guidance and insight, Touching Tiny Lives seeks to continue Father's legacy of being a champion of children, women, and all those impacted by HIV/AIDS.

Programs of Service through which Notre Dame undergraduates, faculty, alumni, and others may serve the women and children of Lesotho impacted by HIV/AIDS.  A year-long fellowship enables post-graduates to work with the TTL staff in Lesotho and develop exciting outreach, nutrition, and medical programs. Opportunities also exist for medical students and residents to perform clinical rotations serving Lesothoto's AIDS impacted populations.

Delivery of Care

mother-to-child transmission of the AIDS virus.
  1. Education and medical programs for pregnant women.
  2. Enhanced availability of HIV testing kits, lab equipment, educational materials, and AIDS medications.
  3. Nutrition and baby formula programs throughout Lesotho, which will serve critically ill children and reduce HIV transmission during breastfeeding.
  4. Collaborating on new research on reducing HIV transmission during breastfeeding.

HESBURGH- AMICUS CENTRE

In late summer 2009 construction was begun on a new facility located on the TTLF campus dedicated to honor the legacy of Father Hesburgh, as well as another extremely generous supporter of TTLF, the AMICUS Foundation.  The HESBURGH-AMICUS CENTRE will house staff and a variety of programs dedicated to the care of infants, children, and women impacted by HIV/AIDS.

Located in the center will be an instructional classroom dedicated to educational programs for the surrounding community and offices for new partners in micro-venture and HIV/AIDS outreach.  The HESBURGH-AMICUS CENTRE will greatly enhance the mission of TTLF by allowing us the space and opportunity to serve the broader community of women and children struggling to overcome the variety of challenges facing them in their fight against AIDS through education, treatment, and prevention.

TTLF Celebrates Hesburgh Month of Service

Hesburgh Month of Service is an annual service event among the University of Notre Dame Community in honor of Fr. Ted and his lifetime of volunteer service. On May 14th, 2010, Sheila Block and Dan & Christy Towle, presented Fr. Ted with a gift to celebrate 6 years of service by Notre Dame Alumni to the Touching Tiny Lives Foundation and the children impacted by the HIV/AIDS crisis in Lesotho. Fr. Ted has provided instrumental support to the foundation and his guidance has encouraged over 46 Notre Dame graduates to volunteer their time in support of TTL's mission.
